When planning a destination wedding, it is extremely important to know the legal requirements in the country you wish to be married. These requirements vary not only from country to country, but also from state to state in Mexico. The resorts may have their own requirements, different than those the country enforces. For instance, in some parts of Mexico a woman has to divorced for at least one year before she can get remarried. Which means if your divorce decree is dated January 2009 and you want to get remarried in Mexico in December 2009, you will not be able to.
These requirements can change at any time, if the country changes their laws. So, potentially you could plan and book your wedding a year in advance and if the country changes their marriage requirements you may not be granted a license.
Of course, you can always have a symbolic wedding ceremony and get legally married when you get home. None of your guests will know the difference...
